Refuge Heroes

As part of an annual volunteer appreciation event at Refuge, I was tasked with coming up with a theme, as well as fabricating a poster series, rsvp mailers, splash screens, conversation cards, and more.
I kept returning to a phrase mentioned early on in the brainstorming process:
“Our volunteers are our heroes…”
This idea took on life through the simple use of an Art Deco superhero motif. From that stylistic decision, a whole thematic logic emerged, from food to music, from games to decor.
(Above) I created a conceptual poster series custom for the event to reflect the diversity of active outreach projects.
Custom-made dessert labels.
Themed conversation cards were placed at each table to serve as ice-breakers for members of different teams.
“Hero” travel mugs were gifted to each volunteer at the end of the night. Mugs could then be presented at the Refuge Cafe for 1 full year of free coffees and teas.
